Ingredients

  • 2 slices your favorite bread (sourdough, whole grain, or white)
  • 1 medium pear, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium apple, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup grated cheese (cheddar, gouda, or brie work well)
  • 1/2 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: fresh thyme or rosemary for added flavor

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat and add the sliced onions.
  2. Cook the onions until they are caramelized, about 10-15 minutes.
  3. In another pan, spread butter on one side of each slice of bread.
  4. On the unbuttered side, layer pear, apple, cheese, and caramelized onions.
  5. Top with the other slice of bread, buttered side up.
